The Footstool Hooker Valley, Aoraki Mt Cook National Park

A crazy late spring snow storm was forecast for the South Island in 2022, so I packed up the car, tent & all my camera gear to head inland. Incredibly the snow wasn't as great in my spiritual homeland, the mighty Mackenzie Country, Canterbury. But the drive up to Mt Cook village & the Hooker Valley track was still covered in fresh snow, in fact it was still snowing when I parked the car, but the sun was just about to rise - the breaks in the cloud & the pre-dawn glow was incredible & filled the whole valley. Most people photograph Mt Sefton with it's imposing glacier & sheer rock faces, but this morning, the light was hitting the fresh snow on this peak & it's 3 glaciers, the Huddlestone, Tewaewae & Eugenie. This was further up the Hooker Valley looking more towards the Eugenie Glacier, but the light was still jaw dropping.
